No. 20 Men's Hockey defeats Princeton, 5-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Carter Wilkie notched two goals and an assist in No. 20 RIT's 5-3 victory over visiting Princeton, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT opened the scoring with 16:26 left in the first period. Senior forward Andrew Petrucci won a draw in the right faceoff circle back to graduate student Matt Kellenberger, who back pedaled to the point and scored on a wrist shot under Princeton goaltender Aidan Porter's stick.
  • RIT took a 2-0 lead with 14:54 on the clock after sophomore forward Tanner Andrew checked a puck off a Princeton player on the left half boards for Wilkie, who skated the loose puck into the slot and scored on a stick-side wrist shot.
  • Princeton got on the board with a power play goal with 9:53 on the clock after Liam Gorman tipped a shot from the point past a screened Scarfone.
  • The Tigers scored a power play tally of their own with 3:09 left in the period after junior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata sent a perfect pass from the top of the left faceoff circle to graduate student forward Kobe Walker in front for a short finish between Porter's pads.
  • Princeton made it a one-goal game early in the second period. RIT sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone padded down a shot from the left face-off circle by Noah de la Durantaye, but Jack Cronin slipped the short rebound inside the right post with 16:36 on the clock.
  • RIT took a 4-2 lead with 4:14 left in the second after junior forward Calvon Boots got open on the crease and scored off a feed from Wilkie for his first career goal.
  • Princeton pulled back within one with 11:17 left in the third after Kevin Anderson stole a puck in the right corner and fed Matt Hayami for a one-timer in the slot.
  • RIT held the visiting Tigers scoreless the rest of the way as Wilkie tacked on an empty-netter with 6.1 remaining in regulation.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT won its eighth-straight game, tying the second-longest streak in the Division I era. The Tigers also won eight-in-a-row during the 2014-15 season as well as early in the 2009-10 campaign that later culminated in a record 12-game run on the way to the Frozen Four.
  • Wilkie has tallied an empty-net goal in three-straight games, totaling four goals and four assists during that span. Notching his first multi-goal game in an RIT sweater, he leads the team with 17 points and is tied for first with seven goals (3 PPG, 3 empty net, 1 even strength).
  • Boots is RIT's 15th goal scorer of the season as well as the 18th player to score at least one point.
  • Scarfone stopped 33 shots for his sixth 30-plus save effort of the year and improved to 10-1-0 this season.
  • Walker scored his fifth goal of the season and tied the team lead with his fourth power-play tally this year.
  • RIT fought off six of seven penalties, entering the week ranked fourth nationally in penalty killing.
  • Graduate student defenseman Spencer Berry blocked a game and career-high seven shots.
