Men’s Basketball beats Wells College in overtime, 84-81

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT senior forward Kevin Ryan scored a season-high 23 points while notching seven rebounds in the Tigers' 84-81 overtime win against Wells College on Tuesday at Clark Gymnasium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers scored first, as Ryan hit a field goal a little over two-and-a-half minutes into the game. The Express responded with two layups by Ransel Rodriguez to pull ahead, 4-2, before increasing their lead to 6-2.
  • A layup by sophomore forward/center Andrew Fox tied the score at six.
  • With 14:51 left in the first, Wells pulled ahead, 8-6, on free throws by Jarek Feliz.
  • The Express pulled ahead, leading in the first half at time by as much as nine points.
  • Sophomore guard Chase Dickens had four points including the tying free throw during a 9-0 run to tie it up, 26-26, with 5:19 left in the first. Dickens again tied the game, 28-28, with free throws at 4:31.
  • A layup by junior forward Kenny Wilburn put the Tigers ahead, 30-28, with 3:14 left in the first.
  • The Tigers would ultimately end the first half up 35-33 after a Fox layup with five seconds left.
  • The two teams traded leads in the early minutes of the second half, but the Express pulled ahead to 47-42 with 12:42 left in the half.
  • RIT rallied, going on a 7-2 run until tying up the game at 49 on a Wilburn free throw with 9:36 left in the half. The Tigers pulled ahead, 51-49, after junior guard Matt Caggiano hit two free throws after a Wells technical foul.
  • Wells retook the lead, 66-65, on a layup with 4:57 left. The two teams would trade leads four times until the Express pulled ahead, 73-69, on a 2:47 layup.
  • The Tigers staged another comeback, going on a 6-2 run and tying the game, 75-75 with a layup and free throw by Ryan with 1:25 left.
  • Wells missed three straight shots in the dying seconds of the second half, sending the game to overtime.
  • Ryan put the Tigers ahead, 77-75, with a layup in the early seconds of overtime.
  • The Tigers extended their lead when Ryan was fouled during a layup with 2:09. Ryan hit his free throw to make the score 80-75.
  • The Express narrowed the RIT lead to 84-81, but junior guard/forward Ronnie Toole stole the ball in the final seconds of overtime to secure the Tiger win.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 46.8 from the floor on 29-of-62 shooting.
  • The Tigers went 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and 21-of-27 from the free throw line.
  • Wells outrebounded RIT, 43-37.
  • There were 12 lead changes and 10 ties in the game.
  • Wilburn had a career-high 18 points in the win while contributing eight rebounds.
