Women's Basketball wins 57-56 in double OT over Skidmore

ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore guard Emma Waite scored with 0.9 seconds to play in the second overtime to give RIT (6-3, 3-1 Liberty League) a 57-56 win over Skidmore (6-2, 1-2 Liberty League) Saturday. Senior Sarah Henretta fed Waite with a pass from an out-of-bounds play, and Waite laid the ball for the winning bucket.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore's Julia Blanck converted a free throw with 2:25 to play in the first quarter to give Skidmore a 19-5 lead.
  • The Tigers outscored Skidmore 6-2 to over the final 2:25 of the quarter to trail 21-11 after the first 10 minutes.
  • RIT went on an 11-3 run over a 6:40 span in the second quarter, cutting the Skidmore lead to 24-22 on a three-pointer from freshman Sydney Pearson.
  • Skidmore closed the half with a 6-2 spurt to lead 30-24 at the break.
  • Pearson led the Tigers with 11 first-half points, while junior forward Kaleesha Joseph finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
  • Joseph tied the score at 32-32 on her bucket midway through the third quarter to cap off a 6-2 spurt by the Tigers.
  • Pearson gave RIT a 37-36 lead on her basket with 3:40 to play in the quarter.
  • Skidmore outscored RIT 9-2 to close out the third quarter leading 45-39.
  • Joseph scored off an assist from senior Alyssa Juergens with 2:05 remaining in regulation that tied the game at 52-52.
  • Skidmore's Claire Driscoll gave the Thoroughbreds a 56-54 lead on her basket with :05 seconds to play in the second overtime.
  • In the second overtime, Waite took a pass from Henretta underneath the RIT basket, tying the score at 56-56 with 0.9 seconds to play on her bucket despite being fouled.
  • She converted the free throw to give the Tigers a 57-56 lead.
  • Driscoll's last-dash effort was off the mark for Skidmore.

GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 22-of-70 from the floor, including 6-of-18 from beyond the arc.
  • Joseph led RIT with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting. She added 14 rebounds, two steals and a block.
  • Pearson scored 17 points off th bench for RIT, including 11 in the second quarter.
  • Driscoll led Skidmore with 21 points, while Kate McCarney chipped in 13 points.
