ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT wrestling team finished fifth at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championship as seven Tiger wrestlers took the podium with top-six finishes, Sunday.
RIT finished with 71 points despite competing in just five weight brackets. Host Ithaca won the event with 151.5 points.
Freshman
Lee Rubin took second place in the 125-pound bracket with RIT's best finish.
Three Tigers finished third on the day and included freshmen
Josh Harkless (197 pounds) and
Aiden Prunoske (125 pounds), along with junior
Nathan Parker (184 pounds).
Sophomore
Josh Post secured fourth place in the 133-pound bracket.
In the 285-pound bracket, RIT placed a pair of wrestlers that included freshman
Nate DeGroff at fifth place and junior
Calik Kennedy at sixth place.
In National Wrestling Coaching Association polls released Jan. 14, RIT is No. 9 in the Dual Teams rankings and tied for 17th in Tournament Teams rankings.
Wrestling next travels to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to participate in the John Reese Duals on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m.
