Women's hockey set to face Robert Morris in CHA Quarterfinal

ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 6 seeded RIT women's hockey team will play No. 3 Robert Morris in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 College Hockey America (CHA) Tournament on Thursday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa. The winner will face No. 2 Mercyhurst in the semifinals on Friday.

ABOUT RIT
RIT enters Thursday averaging 0.60 goals per game, while allowing 4.27 goals per contest. The Tigers are 3-for-57 on the power play, and are 36-of-45 (.800) killing penalties.
 
Senior forward Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore forward Hana Solinger (Chatsworth, Ontario/Cambridge Rivulettes) is second on the team in scoring with three points on two goals and an assist. Senior captain Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, Minn./ ) and juniors Taylor Sims (Deep River, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) and Madison Itagaki (Glenview, Ill./Chicago Mission) each have a pair of assists.
 
Senior Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) has seen the majority of the minutes in net for RIT, recording a 4.50 goals against average and an .879 save percentage. Sophomore Taylor Liotta (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) has made six starts recording a 3.19 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
 
ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS
Robert Morris enters the quarterfinals as the third seed in the CHA Tournament. Last time out, the Colonials dropped a pair of games to Syracuse, including a 4-1 loss last Saturday. Marah Wagner scored Robert Morris' lone goal, while Arielle DeSmet made 17 saves in net.
 
Robert Morris enters Thursday third the CHA in scoring, averaging 2.95 goals per game, and second defensively, allowing 1.81 goals per contest. The Colonials are second in the league converting 16.0 percent (13-of-81) of its power play attempts, and fourth killing 56-of-64 (.875) power plays.
 
Senior Lexi Templeman leads Robert Morris in scoring with 25 points on seven goals and 18 assists. Junior Michaela Boyle is second on the team with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. Freshman Ellie Marcovsky is third with 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists).
 
Sophomore Raygan Kirk has seen the majority of the minutes in net for Robert Morris, recording a 7-4-1 record. She is first in the CHA with a 1.82 goals against average and is third in the league with a .939 save percentage, recording two shut outs.
 
RIT v. ROBERT MORRIS - HISTORY
Robert Morris is 27-11-3 all time versus RIT. The Colonials defeated RIT 5-3 in Rochester back on Feb. 17. Michaela Boyle led Robert Morris with a goal and an assist, while Ellie Marcovsky added two assists. Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) led the Tigers with a goal and an assist. RIT's last win over Robert Morris was a 2-1 victory on Jan. 10, 2020. Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) and Madison Itagaki (Glenview, Ill./Chicago Mission) each had a pair of assists in the win.  
 
RIT TOURNAMENT HISTORY
RIT began CHA play in 2012. In that time, the Tigers have won two CHA Tournament titles. The first came in 2013-14 beating No. 1 seed Mercyhurst, 2-1 in double overtime. The following season, the Tigers advanced to the championship game, defeating Syracuse University 2-1 in two overtimes. RIT's last playoff victory was a 2-1 win over Penn State back in 2017.
