HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals started with three runs in the first inning, but RIT responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman shortstop Randy Dodig (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on single by junior second baseman Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey). Senior first baseman Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) brought Dodig home with a double to right before Blackall came home on a groundout by junior leftfielder Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood). Libby followed with a single to right to bring Capra home.
- The score was tied until Fisher scored five runs in the fifth and then added three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to build a 12-3 lead.
- RIT got three back in the bottom of the eighth. Senior designated hitter Luke McNamara (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) led off with a double to right and, after sophomore third baseman Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) reached on a high throw to first by the Cardinal shortstop, came home on a Poorman single to right. Kistler came home on a Dodig single to right before Poorman came home on a groundout by Blackall.
- Both teams scored twice in the ninth, including an RBI single by Poorman and a sacrifice fly by graduate student centerfielder Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) for the Tigers.
- Sophomore Alex Slotter (Ellington, CT/Ellington) took the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings of relief work.
