ANNONDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – RIT (3-4, 1-0 Liberty League) sophomore
Matt Caggiano scored a team-high 19 points, including the game-tying bucket with :01 to play to lead the Tigers to an 87-85 overtime win at Bard (3-2, 0-1 Liberty League) in Friday's Liberty League opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT trailed by as many as 22 points in the first half and were down 53-37 at halftime.
- Freshman Andrew Fox capped off an 8-3 Tigers run midway through the second half with his bucket off an assist from Brock Bowen that cut the Bard lead to 68-60.
- Sophomore Kevin Ryan converted a pair of free throws with 2:10 to play that tied the score at 74-74.
- Bard's Azriel Almondovar made a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining that gave the Raptors a 74-77 lead.
- Caggiano grabbed the rebound of a missed Bard free throw and drained a three-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 77-77.
- Senior Michael Young scored early in the OT to give the Tigers a lead and Bowen hit a three-pointer to extend the RIT lead to 82-80.
- Caggiano scored four points in the overtime, including a bucket with 2:08 to play that gave RIT an 86-82 lead.
- Junior Keegan Ocorr made a free throw late in the OT to make it an 87-85 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outscored Bard 40-24 in the second half, including 25-12 over the final 11:08 of regulation.
- RIT shot 42-of-67 from the floor, including 7-of-17 from beyond the arc.
- Caggiano shot 7-of-12 from the floor and had four assists.
- Ryan scored 16 points, while Fox came off the bench to score 14 points.
- Young grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with eight points, and Bowen chipped in 10 points.
- Bard's Elliot Harris scored a game-high 31 points.
