ROCHESTER, NY – Despite a game-high 28 points from sophomore forward
Kevin Ryan, the RIT (0-1) Men's Basketball team was beaten 92-87 by Alfred State (1-0) in the season opener Tuesday evening.
How It Happened
- Alfred State's Isaiah Kostyal drained a 3-pointer early in the second half that gave the Pioneers a 69-49 lead.
- RIT responded with a 21-7 run, cutting the Alfred State lead to 76-70 on a three-pointer from sophomore Brandon Weiss with 7:35 to play.
- Alfred State's Ryan Rosa made a deep three-pointer with 5:25 to play that increased the Pioneer's lead to 81-70.
- Ryan scored with 3:47 to play cutting the Alfred State lead to 82-77.
- Rosa increased the Alfred State lead to 88-82 on his bucket with :52 seconds remaining.
- Sophomore guard Matt Caggiano drained a deep three-pointer, cutting the Alfred State lead to 90-87 on his three-pointer with :11 seconds remaining in regulation.
- Rosa made one-of-two free throws inside the final five seconds to make it a 92-87 final.
Game Notes
- RIT shot 42.0% from the floor on 34-of-81 shooting.
- The Tigers made 7-of-34 from behind the arc and went 12-of-18 from the foul line.
- Ryan led RIT with 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
- Weiss chipped in 11 points off the bench for RIT, while Michael Young, Kenny Wilburn and Caggiano each finished with 10 points.
- Basheem Wilkerson led Alfred State with 17 points and eight rebounds.
- Tavion Williams finished with 14 points, while Josh Reding scored 13 points for Alfred State.
