ROCHESTER, NY – RIT (2-4) Graduate student
Chase Lewis scored 18 points, earning All-Tournament Team honors (0-2) to lead the Tigers to a 77-71 win over Fredonia State (0-6) in the consolation game of the 2021 Harold J. Brodie Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fredonia's Lance Welker scored with 8:17 to play to give the Devils their largest lead of the first half.
- Sophomore forward Kevin Ryan capped off an 6-0 RIT spurt with a bucket that cut the Fredonia lead to 32-21.
- RIT closed out the first half with an 18-6 run to lead 43-28 at halftime.
- Freshman guard Kris Laing led the Tigers with nine first-half points, while Ryan scored eight.
- Lewis drained three straight 3-pointers, including one with 9:46 to play in the second half, that extended the Tigers lead to 62-51.
- Fredonia's My'Kell Kaigler cut the RIT lead to 66-63 on his three-pointer with 4:53 to play, while a pair of Dydy Bryan free throws with under three minute remaining made it a three-point game.
- Junior guard Keegan Ocorr laid the ball in with :19 seconds to play to make it a 74-69 lead, and Lewis and freshman Brock Bowen sealed the win by making key free throws down the stretch.
GAME NOTES
- RIT shot 25-of-61 from the floor, including 8-of-24 from beyond the arc.
- Lewis led the Tigers with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
- Laing tallied 17 points, while Ryan finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
- Ocorr had six assists to go along with 11 points.
- Marquis Tubman scored 15 points off the bench to lead Fredonia.
