Women's Basketball beats Nazareth 72-61

PITTSFORD, NY – RIT (1-1) Junior forward Kaleesha Joseph scored a career-high 33 points as the Tigers beat Nazareth (1-4) 72-61 Saturday at the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. Joseph shot 13-of-17 from the floor, and 7-of-10 from the foul line to go along with nine rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Joseph scored 10 points in the first quarter to pace the Tigers to a 20-12 lead.
  • RIT led 35-29 at halftime as Nazareth outscored the Tigers 17-15 in the quarter.
  • Joseph gave RIT an 8-point lead on her layup early in the third quarter.
  • Freshman Sydney Pearson gave the Tigers a 49-40 lead on her 3-pointer late in the third quarter.
  • Pearson gave RIT an 11-point lead on her 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter, and Joseph extended the Tigers lead to 63-51 on her bucket with 4:21 to play.
  • Nazareth got to within six points late in regulation, but timely free throw shooting from senior Taylor Signor and Pearson sealed the win for RIT.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT shot 24-of-62 from the floor, including 3-of-19 from beyond the arc.
  • The Tigers made 21-of-26 from the foul line, and held a 44-40 rebounding edge.
  • Pearson finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Emma Waite tallied eight points. Senior forward Alyssa Juergens grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Caley Cornwell led Nazareth with 14 points.
