Will Calverley notched two goals, both assisted by junior defenseman
Gianfranco Cassaro and senior defenseman
Dan Willett, to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over visiting Holy Cross in Atlantic Hockey action, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross didn't register its first shot on goal until the 8:11 mark of the first period, but opened the scoring 32 second later on its second. Alex Cicero and Mike Higgins brought a puck out of the Tiger zone for an odd-man rush finished by Higgins with 7:39 left in the first.
- RIT evened the score with 2:25 on the clock after Calverley cleaned up a short rebound on the crease after a shot by Cassaro from the top of the left face-off circle deflected down off Crusader goalie Matt Radomsky's pads.
- Calverley got open in the low slot and scored the lone goal of the second period off a Cassaro feed from the right half boards with 1:22 on the clock.
- RIT took a 3-1 lead with 3:22 left in the third after freshman forward Carter Wilkie took a drop pass from freshman forward Grady Hobbs in the left face-off circle and snapped a wrist shot inside the far post.
- Holy Cross got one back in the final minute of regulation after RIT was saddled with a holding the stick penalty with 37 second on the clock, scoring four seconds after the ensuing face-off.
GAME NOTES
- Playing his 100th career game in a Tiger sweater, Calverley's second tally was his 40th career goal and 75th career point.
- Willett leads all RIT players with 66 career assists while his second of the night was also his 75th career point.
- Cassaro's assists were his first points in an RIT uniform. He also scored a goal and two assists during two seasons at UMass.
- Wilkie logged his sixth goal of the season.
- Junior goaltender Kolby Matthews made 24 saves to improve to 6-3-2 this season.
