Box Score ORLANDO, FL – The RIT (1-2) baseball team lost 6-5 to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Tigers lost on a walk-off single by the Corsairs in the bottom of the ninth. They Tigers held the lead through the game's first eight innings as senior
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) and sophomores
Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) and
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) held the Tigers together at the plate.
How it Happened:
- RIT scored two runs in the top of the fifth on RBI from seniors Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) and Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem). The Corsairs responded with a run in the bottom of the inning.
- UMass Dartmouth tied the score at 2-2 with a run in the sixth. The Tigers came back with two runs in the seventh; the first run scored by Capra, while Blackall scored the second, taking a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning.
- Waterman would drive in senior Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the eighth off a single to extend RIT's score to 5-2, but UMass Dartmouth responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to shorten the Tigers' lead.
- After being held scoreless in the ninth, the Tigers would give up 2 runs on a walk-off single by UMass Dartmouth senior Mike Knell to close out the game.
At the Plate:
- Sophomore Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a triple.
- Blackall went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Capra went 3 for 5 at the plate as he scored 2 runs in the number 2 spot.
On the Mound:
- Senior Stevie Branchie started the game for RIT. He gave up seven hits. and struck out eight in 6.1 innings.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday March 8, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a double-header against Keystone College.
