ORLANDO, FL – The RIT (3-5) baseball team defeated Husson University 13-4, Thursday, as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational during their annual Spring trip to Florida.

RIT's sophomore class led the day as Jack Leahy took the win for RIT on the mound after pitching 5 hitless innings and striking out 8 batters. Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) continued his early-season tear by going 4-for-6 at the plate with 3 doubles and 3 RBI. Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) added a pair of doubles and drove in 4 RBI.

How it Happened:
  • The game began scoreless through the third inning before RIT scored 2 runs in the fourth. Sophomore Chris Reilly (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) began the inning with a double and was followed by senior Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) who singled to advance Reilly to third. Sophomore Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) then drove in Reilly with a single and Terzini scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy).
  • The Tigers added to their lead with 3 runs in the fifth. Sophomore Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) doubled to drive in senior Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) who singled earlier in the inning to get on base. A few at bats later, Libby doubled with the bases loaded to drive in Blackall and Reilly, who got on base after being hit by a pitch.
  • RIT maintained their momentum in the sixth inning to score another 4 runs. Junior catcher Kyle Watson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) doubled early in the inning and then scored on a double by freshman outfielder Ethan Student (Hopkinton, MA/St. Mark's). Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) walked to get on base and then was driven in with Student on Blackall's second double of the day. Terzini then concluded the run by singling to drive in Blackall.
  • After a scoreless seventh inning, the Tigers scored 2 runs in the eighth to build an 11-0 lead. Reilly was once again hit by a pitch and Terzini drove him in with a double. Terzini scored later in the inning on Libby's second double.
  • Husson would get on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Sophomore infielder Kobe Rogerson tripled to drive in fellow sophomore infielder Evan Holzworth and junior catcher Ethan Daignealt who got on base through a fielding error and a walk, respectively. Rogerson then scored, himself, on a wild pitch. Later, junior infielder Brandon Smith doubled to get into scoring position and was immediately driven in on a double by first year catcher Jonathan Lendrum. This brought the game in to the ninth inning with RIT in the lead, 11-4.
  • RIT secured the win with another 2 runs in the ninth before holding Husson scoreless to end the game. Freshman Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) doubled to drive in Student who walked earlier in the inning. Kistler then scored on a sacrifice fly by Capra. The game concluded with a final score of 13-4.
