Men's basketball remains in playoff contention with win over Skidmore College Friday

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-15, 6-11 Liberty League) men's basketball team moved into a five-way tie for fifth place in the Liberty League standings with an 81-70 win over Skidmore College (7-27, 6-11 Liberty League) Friday evening. With the win the Tigers are tied with Vassar, St. Lawrence, Clarkson and Skidmore for fifth and sixth place in the Liberty League standings.

RIT led 44-42 at halftime thanks to a 9-2 run over the final 1:44 of the first half, making 3-of-4 from beyond the arc to end the half strong. The Tigers began the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 56-46 lead. RIT held the Thoroughbreds scoreless over a 1:55 span in the second half to build its lead. Skidmore got to within in six points down the stretch, but the Keegan Ocorr (Fairport, NY/Charles Finney) made some clutch free throws down the stretch to hang on for the win.

Ocorr led the RIT with a season-high 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. He added nine rebounds, four assists and a steal was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) tallied 14 points, while Kevin Ryan (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds for the Tigers who shot 44.3 percent from the floor.

Tautvydas Kupstas led Skidmore with 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Greg Skoric tallied 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Thoroughbreds who shot 36.5 percent from the floor.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22, when the Tigers host Vassar College at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale. Prior to the game, the Tigers will honor seniors Cobey Adekanbi (Bloomfield, CT/Loomis Chafee), Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius), Drew DeBacco (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Chuck Okehie (Owings Mills, MD/The McDonough School) as they make their final regular season appearance at Clark Gym.
