GENEVA, NY -- The RIT (6-12, 3-8 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 69-62 at Hobart College (16-3, 10-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Saturday from Bristol Gym.
RIT shot 35.5 percent from the floor on 22-of-62 shooting. The Tigers made 7-of-27 from beyond the arc, and made 11-of-13 from the foul line.
Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) and
Michael Young (Brookly, NY/Nazareth Regional) led RIT with 15 points apiece. Young finished with seven rebounds, while
Keegan Ocorr (Fairport, NY/Charles Finney) chipped in 11 points.
Tucker Lescoe led Hobart with 20 points. Jackson Meshanic tallied 18 points for the Statesmen who shot 46.7 percent from the floor.
RIT led by seven points early in the first half on an old fashioned three-point play from
Kevin Ryan (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland). Later in the half, Young gave RIT a 21-14 lead on his bucket with 9:33 remaining. Hobart closed the half on a 14-5 lead to lead 28-26 at halftime.
Meshanic gave the Statesmen a 42-33 lead early in the second half. RIT scored five straight points, cutting the Hobart lead to 42-38 on pair of Nesbut free throws. Young cut the Statesmen lead to 45-42 on his jumper with 12 minutes to play. Corey Adekanbi made it a one-point Hobart lead on his bucket with 10 minute remaining.
Hobart built its lead to 10 points on a Lescoe bucket. The Tigers answered, cutting the Hobart lead to 58-54 on a Nesbit basket with 3:23 to play in regulation. With 28 seconds remaining, Nesbit drained a three-pointer to cut the Statesmen lead to 65-62, but the Statesmen made enough free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when the Tigers host Ithaca College at 7 p.m. in Liberty League action from Clark Gym.
