CORTLAND, NY – The RIT men's track and field team finished seventh out of 41 teams at the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by SUNY Cortland on Wednesday May 15 and Thursday, May 16.
RIT finished with 39 team points. The College at Brockport won the team title, scoring 76.5 points to nip runner-up Rowan University by one point and host Cortland by 5.5 points.
Sophomore
Max Gloskey (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) put himself in contention for a possible NCAA Championship berth in the 110-meter hurdles after recording a career-best time of 14.61 seconds to finish third overall. It is currently the 16th fastest time in all of Division III this season.
Senior
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) finished second in the 10,000-meter run, earning eight team points by crossing the finish line in 32:06.96. Feigel led throughout the first 4,000 meters before giving way to eventual race winner Bryce Murdick of Hamilton. Feigel ran his final 400 meters in a time of 1:07.96, fastest in the field by four seconds.
RIT's 4 x 800-meter relay team of
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport),
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional),
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield) recorded an impressive second place finish, crossing the finish line in 7:47.85, which just missed breaking a school mark.
The 4 x 100-meter relay squad of
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus), Gloskey,
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School) and
Jeff Walter (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) placed fifth overall in a time of 42.09 seconds. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Walter,
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford), Morrissey and Geiger placed sixth overall, finishing in a time of 3:18.08.
Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) earned five points for RIT in the discus throw, firing it 45.70 meters. He also fired the shot 14.00 meters to finish ninth in that event.
Thomas James (/) was RIT's top finisher in the pole vault, finishing sixth overall by clearing 4.58 meters.
Geiger placed second overall in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.02 seconds. Callejo finished 16th overall in the 400-meters, recording a time of 50.82 seconds.
Seniors
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) and
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) competed in the hammer throw. Darling had a throw of 46.99 meters to place 17th, while Ettienne had a throw of 43.92 meters to place 24th. Darling also fired the shot put 12.95 meters.
Raphael Abel (/) was 15th in the long jump with a leap of 6.66 meters.
RIT will now await potential qualifiers into the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place from May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
