PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT men's track and field team had a strong showing at the Cardinal Classic hosted by St. John Fisher College on cold and blustery Saturday.
Kyle Higby (Mexico, NY/Mexico) finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 10:34.72.
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) placed fourth in the 1,500 meters, finishing in a time of 4:07.73, and
Doug Luba (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) came home ninth in a time of 4:12.90.
Zack Wigent (Fariport, NY/Fairport) placed second in the prelims of 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.35 and
Matthew Skakal (Lancaster, NY /Lancaster ) placed seventh in the 400-meters, coming home in a time of 52.28.
Andrew McPherson (Baldwin, NY/Kellenberg) was 11th in the 100-meter dash (12.28 seconds).
In field events,
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) finished third in the pole vault, clearing 4.55 meters.
Thomas James (/) and
Nick Baxter (Windsor, NY/Windsor)both cleared 4.40 meters. Conor Murdock (38.96 meters) and
Daniel Pinigin (Norwich, VT/Hanover)Â (37.39 meters) placed eighth and tenth, respectively, in the javelin.
Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) finished third in the shot put with a toss of 14.07 meters in the hammer throw and fired the discus 41.64 meters to also place third.
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) placed sixth with a throw of 43.41 meters and Ethan Etienne finished right behind in seventh with a throw of 42.62 meters.
In addition, senior standouts
Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Cybergymnasiet) and
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) competed at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday evening.

Kingstedt finished 11th overall and first among all Division III runners in the 10,000-meters, recording an impressive time of 30:41.14. Kingstedt's time is currently the 24th fastest in all of Division III this season.

Feigel placed 37th overall and fourth among Division III runners in the 5,000-meters, crossing the finish line in 14:36.40. The time was a personal best for Feigel and ranks in the top-25 among all Division III runners to date this season.
RIT begins competition in the 2019 Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, May 3 at Rensselaer.Â
