LEWISBURG, PA/ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's track and field team had student-athletes compete at both the Bucknell Bison Invitational on Saturday and University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Sunday.
At Bucknell Saturday, Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) broke 15 minutes in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 14:59.46. Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) recorded a time of 4:00.16 in the 1,500-meters. Doug Luba (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) crossed the finish line in 4:06.01 and Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) finished in 4:10.06.
On the field side, Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) recorded a throw of 42.59 meters in the discus, while Raphael Abel (/) finished 18th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.52 meters.
RIT was slated to have a full contingent of student-athletes compete at Rochester Sunday, but rainy and windy conditions forced several to not compete after the opening events. Despite that, RIT finished second as a team with 125 points.
Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Cybergymnasiet) started the day by rolling to a convincing win by nearly 19 seconds in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 32:07.97. Classmate Tommy Papish (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) finished fifth in 33:09.54.
Jason Ziskind (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led a strong RIT contingent in the 1,500-meters, winning the race by nearly four seconds in 4:16.96. Tim Sunnerberg (Burlington, MA/Burlington) placed fourth in 4:25.78, while Kyle Higby (Mexico, NY/Mexico) (4:26.62) finished fifth and Adam Taylor (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) (4:28.21) was sixth. Jay Humphreys (Sherman, CT/New Milford) and Jake Barker (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) also recorded top-1 finishes.
Owen Brewer (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) recorded a time of 16:30.77 in the 5,000-meter run to place second, while Sebastian Moreano (Medford, NY/Patchouge-Medford) (17:03.68) finished third and Ansel Ammana (18:06.42) was seventh.
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield) finished fourth in the 800-meters, with a time of 2:01.88, while Alex Cooley (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) (2:07.23) finished ninth.
In field events, Connor Murdock () won the javelin throw, firing it 42.18 meters. Funicelli took first in the discus with a throw of 40.48 meters, while Peter Stefos (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton ) (33.08 meters) finished sixth.
Funicelli and Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Funicelli fired the shot 13.69 meters, while Darling was right behind with a toss of 13.57 meters. Mickey Evans (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) (12.35 meters) was eighth and Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) (11.47 meters) finished ninth. Darling was also second in the hammer with an impressive throw of 46.60 meters. Ettienne (41.43 meters) finished sixth, Funicelli (41.07 meters) was seventh and Evans finished ninth.
Devante Marshall (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) (6.09 meters), Noah Flynn (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) (5.92 meters) and Raphael Abel (/) (5.86 meters) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump.
RIT heads right back to the University of Rochester to compete in the Spring Classic on Saturday, April 20.
