PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT baseball team (3-6) suffered an 8-0 loss at St. John Fisher College (8-3) from sun-soaked Dugan Yard Wednesday afternoon. It was RIT's first game up north after playing three games in Virginia and five in Florida to start the season.
Fisher scored four times in the bottom of the third inning, twice in the fourth and two more in the seventh inning.
Fisher out-hit RIT 9-5. Allen Murphy went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the Cardinals attack. He also started on the mound and allowed two hits and struck out four batters in four innings. Kenneth Westbrook would get the win, firing three scoreless innings in relief, while Brandon Roberts pitched the final two innings.
John Mikolaicyk (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) got the start on the mound, firing two scoreless innings.
Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland) would take the loss, pitching the third inning.
Jon Opalewski (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls),
Matt Vitro (Carmel, NY/Carmel) and
Liam Barry (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) also pitched in relief.
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) was the lone Tiger to have two hits.
Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) and
Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) added singles.
The Tigers are scheduled to be in action next on Saturday with a doubleheader at Liberty League rival University of Rochester that gets underway at 1 p.m. RIT is scheduled to host Rochester in a second doubleheader at noon Sunday.
