ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (3-8, 0-2 Liberty League) opened up Liberty League action by dropping a pair of games down the road at University of Rochester (6-5, 2-0 Liberty League) from Towers Field on Sunday afternoon. Rochester won game one, 9-2 and took game two in a slugfest, 14-10.
Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) homered, singled, hit two sacrifice flies and drove in a career-high seven runs in game two. He hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning that scored twin brother
Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) to give RIT a 1-0 lead. Mylott would hit his second sacrifice fly in the third inning that plated
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem), who also tripled in a run earlier in the frame to give RIT its lone lead of the game, 3-2. Mylott tied the game at 6-6 with a three-run home run to center field in the fourth inning and hit a two-run single in the fifth to cut Rochester's lead to 9-8.
Rochester would have an answer for every time RIT would threaten in game two. With the game tied at 9-9, Jack Herman hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give Rochester the lead back for good. Aiden Finch doubled in a pair of runs in the seventh inning to make it a 14-10 game.
Rochester out-hit RIT, 15-14 in game two. Finch, who homered earlier in the game, drove in six runs. David Reith was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Herman was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two walks. Jake Hertz and Drew Bankovich scored two runs each.
Capra was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two walks and two RBIs.
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) went 3-for-5, while
Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) an
Luke McNamara (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) both had two hits and scored two runs.
Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) walked twice and scored two runs.
Tyler McConway got the win in relief for Rochester, allowing three hits in a run over two innings. Brendan Shamieh fired two scoreless innings to earn the save.
In game one, Rochester scored two runs in the first inning before blowing the game open with five more in the sixth inning, as they out-hit RIT, 13-4.
Steve Pickering was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, a run scored and RBI. Herman and Finch both homered in the win. Jack Denzer fired a 79-pitch complete game, scattering four hits, while striking out seven batters.
Blackall singled in a run for the Tigers, while
Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) hit a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Watson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Waterman singled.
Stevie Branche (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) started and allowed four runs (three earned) with three strikeouts over five innings.
Matt Vitro (Carmel, NY/Carmel) struck out two batters to get out of the sixth inning.
The Tigers and Yellowjackets will also meet for two games at RIT on April 2.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 30 with a home doubleheader against Utica College that gets underway at 12 p.m. RIT heads to Utica for a single game the following day at 1 p.m.
