Baseball suffers 3-0 loss to Franklin & Marshall

AUBURNDALE, FL – The RIT baseball team (1-4) fell to Franklin & Marshall College (4-0) by a score of 3-0 from Lake Myrtle Park Sunday morning.
 
The Diplomats scored all three runs in the top of the first inning, all without a hit and hung on from there. There were three walks, two hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly in the opening inning.
 
RIT had three singles from Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem), Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) and Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic).
 
Starting pitcher John Mikolaicyk (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had a tough first inning with three walks and two hit batters, but settled in from there, allowing just one hit, while striking out seven batters over 4 2/3 innings. Bryce Jellinick (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief, while Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland) threw three shutout innings, striking out a pair of batters.
 
Jack Buckley allowed just one hit and one walk with 11 strikeouts over six shutout innings for Franklin & Marshall to earn the win. Charlie Wright scattered a pair of hits over the final three innings to preserve the shutout and pick up the save.

RIT is eight back in action on Monday morning at 10 a.m. against New Jersey City University from Lake Myrtle Park Field #1 in Auburndale, Fla.
