ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (15-6, 10-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team won its seventh straight game Friday with a 72-58 victory over first-place Vassar College (19-3, 13-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium. Junior
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) tallied a career-high 23 points for the Tigers, who snapped Vassar's 16-game winning streak.
RIT shot 42.4 percent from the floor on 25-of-59 shooting. The Tigers were an impressive 20-of-22 from the foul line. Stanley led all scorers with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high eight steals, while
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) chipped in 16 points and five assists.
Sophie Nick led Vassar with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jackie Cenan tallied 17 points for the Brewers, who shot 46.3 percent from the floor. RIT forced the Brewers into 17 turnovers.
RIT outscored Vassar 25-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away in a closely contested game. The Tigers went on a 16-6 run to start the fourth quarter, taking a 63-55 lead on a jumper from
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) with 3:48 to play. Wolfe, Stanley and Okada each made clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Vassar led 22-20 after the opening quarter before RIT rallied to tie the game at 33-33 going into halftime. Vassar would lead 49-47 after three quarters of play. Vassar turned the ball over 18 times to just 10 for RIT.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 versus Skidmore College at 2 p.m. Prior to the game the Tigers will honor seniors
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) and
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton).
