ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's hockey heads back on the road to take on Atlantic Hockey rival College of the Holy Cross this weekend. Both Friday and Saturday's games from the Hart Center begin at 7:05 p.m.
RIT and Holy Cross both have eight regular season games remaining, all against Atlantic Hockey foes. The Tigers enter the weekend fifth in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 23 points, just two out of second. Holy Cross is currently tenth in the league standings with 15 points.
RIT (12-11-3, 10-7-3 AHA) enters the weekend looking to get back in the win column after suffering a pair of home losses to No. 16 Arizona State in its final two non-conference games of the season.
Ryan Kruper (Sherwood Park, Alberta/Sherwood Park Crusaders) scored RIT's lone goal in Friday's loss, while
Jake Hamacher (Corona, CA/Dubuque Fighting Saints) and
Darren Brady (Lake Orion, MI/New Jersey Titans) scored on Saturday. Hamacher's goal was on a penalty shot, RIT's first penalty shot goal in four years.
The Tigers are 6-1-2 over its last nine games in league play.
Abbott Girduckis (Belleville, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) leads the Tigers in scoring with 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists in 26 games, while
Erik Brown (Keene, Ontario/Kemptville 73's),
Gabe Valenzuela (Brampton, Ontario/North York Rangers) and Hamacher have 20 points apiece. Brown has a team-high 12 goals, while Hamacher is right behind with 11. In net,
Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) has appeared in 22 games and is 9-10-3 with a 2.57 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
Holy Cross enters the weekend with a 6-16-4 record and is 6-11-3 in Atlantic Hockey play. The Crusaders are riding a three-game unbeaten streak. Last weekend, Holy Cross earned three points against AHA foe Army West Point, skating to a 2-2 tie on Friday and earning a 5-4 win Saturday. Johnny Coughlin leads the team in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists. Anthony Vincent is right behind with 17 points on three goals and a team-high 14 assists. In goal, Erik Gordon has played in 22 games and has a 5-12-4 record with a 2.97 goals against average and an .896 save percentage.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 27-15-7. The two teams have alternated wins and losses in the last six meetings. Last season, RIT and Holy Cross split the season series, with each team winning twice and losing a pair.
