ITHACA, NY – The RIT men's track and field team finished third of six teams at the 2019 Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships from Glazer Arena at the Athletics and Events Center on the campus of Ithaca College on Feb. 22-23. Senior
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) was named the Liberty League Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet.
RIT finished a team score of 138.5 points, as host Ithaca won the meet with 176.5 points and Rensselaer placed second with 142 points.
Geiger enjoyed a tremendous weekend for the Tigers, breaking a pair of school records, while winning the 200-meter dash in a meet record time of 22.22 seconds and anchoring the winning 4 x 400-relay team that also set a meet record of 3:22.51. In addition, Geiger was second in the 60-meter and 400-meter dash events.
Geiger set a school record of 6.97 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash in Friday night, before recording a time of 7.01 seconds in the finals Saturday to place second. Geiger posted a time of 49.98 seconds in Friday's 400-meter final, but ran his anchor leg of the 4 x 400-meter dash Saturday in 49.26 seconds. He lowered the 200-meter school record by three one-hundredths of a second.
Max Gloskey (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) enjoyed a tremendous championship for the Tigers, breaking the school record in the 60-meter hurdles on both Friday and Saturday, while winning the event. Friday, he posted a time of 8.24 in the prelims and bettered that by finishing in 8.21 seconds in the championship Saturday. Gloskey was also runner-up to Geiger in the 200-meters (22.41 seconds) and placed fourth in the finals of the 60-meter dash (7.11 seconds).
As mentioned earlier, RIT's 4 x 400-meter relay team of
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford),
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School),
Jeff Walter (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) and Geiger set a meet record on Saturday, winning by just under a second in a time of 3:22.51.
Bradley Morrisette was tied for third in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters. Zach Wigent finished eighth, right behind Morrissette, surpassing 1.75 meters.
Devante Marshall (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.37 meters.
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) and
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the weight throw. Ettienne had a toss of 15.38 meters, while Darling fired the weight 14.50 meters.
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) and
Herlandt Lino (New Milford, CT/New Milford) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Feigel crossed the finish line in 8:39.99, while Lino was right behind in 8:40.60.
The Tigers also enjoyed tremendous success on
Friday evening, as
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) won the pole vault,
Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) was second in the shot put and
Jeff Walter (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) placed third in the long jump.
RIT is right back in action on March 1-2 from Ithaca for the All-Atlantic Region Championship.
