ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The RIT (19-6, 14-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team cruised to an 81-49 win at Bard College (5-20, 0-18 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. The Tigers extend their winning streak to a program-record 11 straight games.
With the win, RIT finishes tied for second in the Liberty League standings and receives the first round bye in next week's Liberty League Tournament, which will be played at regular-season champion Ithaca College. The Tigers will face the winner between No. 3 Vassar College and No. 6 Skidmore College in the semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Ithaca College.
RIT began the game on an 18-2 run and led 22-11 after first quarter. The Tigers extended their lead in the second quarter, out-scoring the Raptors 21-9 in the quarter to lead 43-20 at halftime.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) scored 19 points in the half to pace the Tigers, who shot 51.4 percent on 18-of-35 shooting. The Tigers scored 30 points in the third quarter, and eight in the fourth to win their 11th straight game.
RIT shot 47.1 percent overall from the floor on 33-of-70 shooting. The Tigers were an impressive 13-of-16 from the foul line. Wolfe led all scorers with 24 points.
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) tallied 19 points, while
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) chipped in 10 points.
Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) led the Tigers with seven rebounds, while
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) finished with four assists.
Caleigh DeCaprio led Bard with 21 points, while Katie Esposito finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for the Raptors who shot 37.0 percent from the floor.
RIT has won all 11 games during its winning streak by double digits.
It is the fourth straight season the Tigers have qualified for the Liberty League Tournament, winning the title in 2017. The winner of the Liberty League Championship receives the automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Tigers advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history in 2018.
