ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's hockey team embarks on its final weekend road trip of the regular season, heading to the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart University. Friday's game has a special 11:05 a.m. start, while Saturday's contest gets underway at 2:05 p.m.
RIT enters the weekend tied for third with Air Force in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 25 points. Sacred Heart is tied with Mercyhurst for fifth with 24 points, just one behind the Tigers. Four points separates second from sixth place.
The Tigers (13-12-3, 11-8-3 AHA) recorded a split on the road last weekend at Holy Cross, winning 4-3 on Friday, while losing by the same score Saturday night. On Friday,
Dan Willett (Bayville, NY/Bloomington Thunder), Bruce,
Zach Salloum (Orleans, Ontario/Ottawa Jr. Senators) and
Will Calverley (Scarborough, Ontario/Chilliwack Chiefs) scored for the Tigers, while
Adam Brubacher (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings) dished out three assists and Spencer Bruce tallied his first two helpers.
Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) made 28 saves to pick up the win. On Saturday,
Erik Brown (Keene, Ontario/Kemptville 73's),
Andrew Petrucci (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Patriots) and
Jake Joffe (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) scored for RIT, as they jumped out to a 3-1 second period lead, before Holy Cross scored three unanswered goals.
The Tigers are 7-2-2 over their last 11 games in league play.
Abbott Girduckis (Belleville, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) leads the Tigers in scoring with 28 points on eight goals and 20 assists in 28 games, while Brubacher has 22 points and Brown and Hamacher have 21 points apiece. Brown has a team-high 13 goals, while Hamacher is right behind with 11. In net,
Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) has appeared in 24 games and is 9-10-3 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.
Sacred Heart (12-13-3, 11-9-2 AHA) enters the weekend riding a five-game winning streak and is 7-1-1 over its last nine games. Last weekend, Sacred Heart swept a pair of games at Niagara, winning 4-2 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday. Austin Magera leads the Pioneers in scoring with nine goals and 21 points. Austin McIlmurray also has nine goals, while Marc Johnstone has a team-best 13 assists. In net, Josh Benson is 10-6-2 with a 2.38 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 24-11-2. Sacred Heart won both earlier meetings this season at the Polisseni Center on Dec. 7-8 by scores of 4-3 in overtime and 6-4. Brubacher scored two goals and added an assist in the 6-4 loss. Brown leads all active Tigers in career scoring against Sacred Heart with nine goals and 14 points in 11 games.
