POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The RIT (4-2, 1-0 Liberty League) men's basketball team opened Liberty League play with a 77-73 win at Vassar College (2-3, 0-1 Liberty League) Friday evening. Trailing 35-28 at halftime, the Tigers rallied in the second half, outscoring the Brewers 49-38.
RIT shot 45.5 percent from the floor on 25-of-55 shooting, including 15-of-28 in the second half. The Tigers made 9-of-22 from beyond the arc, and 18-of-25 free throws.
Keegan Ocorr (Fairport, NY/Charles Finney) led RIT with a career-high 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point land.
Kevin Ryan (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) tallied a 14 points off the bench, while
Cobey Adekanbi (Bloomfield, CT/Loomis Chafee) finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Zach Bromfeld led Vassar with 19 points and 19 rebounds, and Zach Johnson tallied 14 points and tallied 12 rebounds for the Brewers who shot 39.1 percent from the floor.
RIT fell behind by eight points early in the second half, but pulled to withing two points on a
Michael Young (Brookly, NY/Nazareth Regional) layup. The Brewers ballooned their lead back to eight points on a Bromfeld bucket, but Ocorr cut the Vassar lead back to three points on his three-pointer with 15:29 to play.
Later in the half, Ocorr scored five straight points for RIT, including a three-pointer with 11:44 remaining that gave the Tigers their first lead of the half. Bromfeld gave the Brewers a 1-point lead, but
Josh Griffin (Tustin, CA/Orange Lutheran) drained a three-pointer on the Tigers next possession to make it 58-56 RIT.
Adekanbi gave RIT a 65-59 lead on his bucket with 3:58 to play. Joey Sacco cut the RIT lead to 71-74 late in the game, but the Tigers made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Skidmore College at 4 p.m.
