ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-0) women's swimming and diving team began the 2019-20 season with a 162-138 win over Liberty League rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With the win, the Tigers have now won 11 straight dual meets.
In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of
Mililani Rosare (Campbell, CA/Westmont),
Sam Russell (Fredon, NJ/Kittatinny Regional),
KhaVy Sangasy (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and
Sydney Burgard (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) came home first in a time of 1:51.48. The team of Burgard,
Phoebe Huey (Fort Collins, CO/Fossil Ridge),
Elle Holland (East Concord, NY/Springville Griffith) and
Eleanor O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:41.29.
Russell and Sangasy each won two individual events in their collegiate debuts. Russell won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.47) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.47). Sangasy took home a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.44) and was a winner in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.34).
Other winners included Huey in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.79). Rosare was a winner in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.32), and Holland took first place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.75).
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Alfred University beginning at 1 p.m.
