Women's basketball suffers home loss to league foe Ithaca

ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 25 RIT (8-3, 3-2 Liberty League) women's basketball team was defeated 77-52 at home by Ithaca College (9-3, 4-1 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Tuesday evening from Clark Gymnasium.

RIT shot 35.2 percent from the floor on 19-of-54 shooting. The Tigers made 7-of-22 from beyond the arc, and made 7-off-11 from the foul line. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) led the Tigers with 18 points and four rebounds. Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) tallied 10 points, while Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Cassidy O'Malley led Ithaca with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Grace Cannon tallied 15 points, while Annie Gionnone scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four assists for the Bombers, who shot 50.8 percent from the floor, including 59.3 percent in the second half.

Ithaca led 19-11 after the first quarter and 31-27 at halftime. The Bombers broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 23-10 to lead 54-37 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. The Bombers pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Ithaca out-rebounded RIT, 40-30 and forced 16 RIT turnovers. Ithaca broke the game open with an 11-0 run late in the third quarter to extend its lead from eight to 19.

RIT returns to action on Friday, January 11 at Skidmore College. Tip-off from Saratoga Springs, N.Y. is 5 p.m.
