Women's basketball uses second half surge to earn win over St. Lawrence

Tigers out-scored Saints 43-22 in the second half

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-6, 4-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team used a decisive second half surge to snap its five-game losing skid with a 72-51 win over St. Lawrence University (6-9, 3-5 Liberty League) Friday evening in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium.

With the game tied at 29-29 at halftime, RIT dominated play in the second half, out-scoring St. Lawrence, 43-22. The Tigers broke the game open with a 32-7 run to end the third quarter and start the fourth quarter. The Tigers shot 18-of-34 from the floor in the second half, including 10-of-18 in the fourth quarter.

RIT shot 45.6 percent from the floor on 31-of-68 shooting. The Tigers made just 4-of-17 from beyond the arc, but were 6-of-7 from the foul line. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) led a trio of Tigers in double figures with a career-high 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals, while Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) dished out a game-high five assists, while Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) added eight points.

Ava McCann led St. Lawrence with 14 points. Marlee Gunn tallied eight points, while Dylan Watkiss finished with seven points, four rebounds and five assists for the Saints who shot 38.5 percent from the floor.

RIT led 18-13 after the first quarter, before St. Lawrence used a 13-4 run to take the late in the second. RIT rallied with a 7-3 burst to end the first half tied at 29-29. Stanley led RIT with 11 points in the opening half.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 12 p.m. in the floor of Clark Gym.
