HOUGHTON, NY – The RIT men's track and field team excelled at the Highlander Invitational, hosted by Houghton College from the Kerr-Pegula Field House Friday. Four individuals and one relay team recorded wins for RIT.
RIT's 4 x 400-meter relay team earned a victory, as the quartet of
Jeff Walter (/),
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford),
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School) crossed the finish line in 3:25.79.
Max Gloskey (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) won the 60-meter hurdles by four one-hundredths of a second in a time of 8.50 seconds. Geiger emerged victorious in the 300-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 35.76 seconds. Callejo placed third in 36.83 seconds.
Chase Schuster (New Milford, CT/New Milford ) placed fourth in the 200-meters, crossing the finish line in 23.81 seconds, while
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 52.71 seconds.
Otto Wilson (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen ) placed third overall in the 600-meters with a time of 1:25.01.
Matthew Skakal (Lancaster, NY /Lancaster ) finished sixth.
Herlandt Lino (New Milford, CT/New Milford) was second among all collegiate runners in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.06, while
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) placed fourth in 9:10.89.
Tommy Papish (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) led a strong RIT charge in the 5,000-meter run, placing second overall in a time of 15:55.59.
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) finished third, while
Noah Britton (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) was fourth and
Kyle Higby (Mexico, NY/Mexico) placed fifth.
In field events, Walter edged
Daniel Giuliano (Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) in the long jump. Walter had a top jump of 6.78 meters to win the event, while Giuliano was right behind in third at 6.76 meters. Morrissey was fourth in the triple jump at 12.58 meters.
Nick John (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca),
Thomas James (/),
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Matthew Ryan (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) all excelled in the pole vault. John was RIT's top finisher, clearing 4.70 meters, while James surpassed 4.40 meters.
RIT's throwers enjoyed strong showings.
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) was third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.20 meters, while
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) was right behind in fourth at 15.90 meters.
Matthew Funicelli (),
Mickey Evans (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) and
Peter Stefos (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton ) also recorded top-10 finishes. Funicelli was RIT's top finisher in the shot put with a toss of 13.20 meters, while Darling (13.09 meters) was sixth and Evans (12.91 meters) placed seventh. Ettienne also recorded a ninth-place finish.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Brockport Multi & Invitational, hosted by The College at Brockport. Saturday's action begins at 10 a.m.
