Women's Basketball falls on the road at No. 17 SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, NY – The RIT (8-6) women's basketball team suffered its fifth straight defeat, 65-52 at No. 17 SUNY Geneseo (13-1) Tuesday night at Schrader Gymnasium. 
 
RIT shot 33.8 percent from the floor on 22-of-65 shooting. The Tigers went 5-of-14 from beyond the arc, and made 3-of-6 from the foul line. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) led the Tigers with 14 points and four rebounds and Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) added 10 points and six rebounds. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied eight points and seven assists, while Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) had eight points and five rebounds.
 
Kerrin Montgomery led the way for the Knights, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds. Geneseo scored 37 points off the bench, including Alyssa Lesakowski's 10 points. Sara Ciotti, Nicole Kaczmarczyk and Madison McCulley each scored nine points off the bench. The Knights shot 46.3 percent from the field.
 
The Knights led 21-16 at the end of the first quarter. Stanley scored nine points, while Juergens added a 3-pointer. The Tigers shot 46.7 percent from the floor. Geneseo went on a 5-0 run to start the game and never trailed. 
 
The Tigers started the second quarter strong, cutting the Geneseo lead to three points after a Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) offense rebound and put back. The rally was spoiled as the Knights came down the court and hit a quick 3-pointer from Madison McCulley.

Geneseo led 37-31 at halftime. RIT shot 41.4 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from behind the arc in the first half. Stanley led all scorers with 12 at the break. Taylor Signor (Hopkinton, NH/Hopkinton) added seven points in the half for the Tigers.
 
The Tigers went on a 10-4 run to cut Geneseo's lead down to three points, 46-43 late in the third quarter. Yet again, McCulley hit another clutch 3-pointer for the Knights, which started a 7-0 run to end the quarter, as Geneseo led 53-43 after 30 minutes. 
 
The Tigers shot just 22.2 percent in the fourth quarter and never really threatened, as Geneseo went on to a 13-point win.
 
RIT returns to action on Friday, Jan. 18 when the Tigers host league foe St. Lawrence at 5 p.m. from Clark Gym.
