Women's basketball suffers tough road loss at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The RIT (8-5, 3-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team suffered its fourth straight defeat with a 74-66 loss at Liberty League co-leader Vassar College (12-2, 6-1 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon.

RIT shot 43.3 percent from the floor on 29-of-67 shooting. The Tigers made just 3-of-17 from beyond the arc, and went 5-of-8 from the foul line. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) was one of four Tigers to score in double figures finishing with 19 points. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied 18 points, while Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) scored 11 points. Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) scored 10 points, while Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) finished with 10 rebounds and eight points.

Jackie Cenan led Vassar with a game-high 30 points and 10 rebounds. Sophie Nick finished with a double-double tallying 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the Brewers who shot 44.4 percent from the floor.
 
The Tigers trailed 27-21 after the first quarter, and 46-35 at halftime. Wolfe led RIT with 11 first-half points, while Lynch and Stanley each scored eight points. Cenan tallied 16 points to pace the Brewers.

RIT came roaring back in the third quarter, outscoring Vassar 25-13. Stanley gave RIT its first lead since the first quarter on her jumper at the buzzer to end the quarter giving the Tigers a 60-59 lead. RIT went 11-of-15 from the floor in the quarter. Stanley tallied eight points in the quarter, while Wolfe chipped in seven points.
 
Cenan gave the Brewers the lead for good on her 3-pointer with 9:17 left in the fourth quarter. Okada cut the Brewers lead to 66-64 on her free throw with 2:57 remaining in regulation. A Stanley layup with 2:02 to play made it a 3-point deficit for the Tigers. RIT had its chances, but could not get the ball to drop.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 15 when the Tigers play at No. 14 SUNY Geneseo at 7 p.m.
