ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's track and field team enjoyed several dominant performances at the RIT Invitational from the Gordon Field House on Saturday. The Tigers took on Division I Canisius and Division II schools, Daemen, Mansfield and Roberts Wesleyan.
RIT's 4 x 200-meter relay team of
Jon Ennin (Sunnyvale, TX/Sunnyvale),
Max Gloskey (/),
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School) and
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) won by just under 10 seconds in 1:31.75. The 4 x 400-meter relay squad of
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford),
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott),
Matthew Woods (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield) crossed the finish line in 3:31.97 to win by just over four seconds.
Geiger led a dominant RIT contingent in the 400-meter dash, winning by 36 one-hundredths of a second in a time of 51.34 seconds. Callejo (51.70 seconds) placed second and Morrissey was right behind in third (51.84 seconds).
Sodiq Alaraba (Lagos, Nigeria/DoEstdot International) took the 200-meter dash by just under a second in a time of 23.79 seconds.
Gloskey recorded an impressive time of 7.20 seconds in the 60-meter dash, while teammate
Matthew Lienhard (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) was right behind at 7.33 seconds and
Jeff Walter (/) finished in 7.366 seconds.
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) rolled to a 25 second win in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line first in 8:53.57.
Tommy Papish (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was the runner-up.
Herlandt Lino (New Milford, CT/New Milford) won the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:29.61.
Kyle Higby (Mexico, NY/Mexico) was fourth overall with a time of 4:38.60.
Jake Barker (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) finished third in the 500-meters, recording a time of 1:11.78.
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield) was RIT's top finisher in the 800-meters, crossing the finish line in 2:01.72, just 12 one-hundredths of a second faster than teammate
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (2:01.84).
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:37.29.
Jeff Walter (/) led a top-four contingent for the Tigers in the long jump, winning with a top leap of 6.60 meters.
Noah Flynn (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) (6.25 meters),
Dustin Van Kirk (Canton, CT/Canton) (6.16 meters) and
Bryan Richiez (Hartford, CT/Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) (5.89 meters) rounded out the top-four.
Zack Wigent (Fariport, NY/Fairport) won the long jump with a leap of 1.73 meters, while
Eric Hamm (Portchester, NY/Hendrick Hudson) was close behind at 1.63 meters.
Bradley Morissette (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) recorded a leap of 11.78 meters in the triple jump.
Thomas James (/) was RIT's top finisher in the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters.
Nick John (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) (4.25 meters),
Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (4.10 meters) and
Nick Baxter (Windsor, NY/Windsor) (3.95 meters) were right behind.
In throws action,
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) led a 1-2-3 charge for the Tigers in the shot put. Darling fired the shot 13.22 meters, while
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) (12.48 meters) and
Eric Gardiner (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) (11.46 meters) were second and third, respectively. Ettienne bested Darling in the weight throw. Ettienne had a throw of 16.46 meters, while Darling fired the weight 15.18 meters.
The Tigers return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Houghton Invitational from Houghton College.
