Men's hockey announces 2017-18 award winners

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's hockey program announced its award winners at its annual end of the year banquet to close out the 2017-18 season from the Gene Polisseni Center on Friday, April 13.
 
Senior captain Chase Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) won three awards, including the Tim Cordick Award as RIT's top defenseman during the 2017-18 season. Norrish, who also won the Cordick Award in 2016, was also co-recipient of the Louis Spiotti Coaches Award and Art Thomas Leadership Award.
 
Norrish, a 2018 All-Atlantic Hockey third team selection and 2016 Atlantic Hockey Defenseman of the Year and first team selection, bounced back from injury to enjoy a strong 2017-18 season, tallying 20 points on three goals and 17 assists in 32 games. He had 16 points while playing in all 28 AHA contests. Norrish saved his best for last, setting a RIT Division I team record with an 11-game assist streak and 12-game point-scoring streak from Jan. 27 to March 3, recording two goals and 14 assists to go along with a plus-8 during that stretch. A two-year team captain, Norrish, appeared in 128 career games for the Tigers, recording 19 goals and 48 assists for 67 points with 129 penalty minutes.
 
Twin brother Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) was the co-recipient of the Art Thomas Leadership Award. A three-year captain, Norrish also won the award last season. He appeared in the 2017-18 season-opener against Northeastern at Blue Cross Arena before suffering a season-ending injury. Norrish was RIT's nomination for the Senior Class award and appeared in 100 career games with 11 goals, 44 assists and 55 points.
 
Junior Erik Brown (Keene, Ontario/Kemptville 73's) was co-winner of the Louis Spiotti Coaches Award and sole recipient of the Greg Moss Hard Hat Award for grit and determination for the second straight year. Brown, an All-Atlantic Hockey first team selection, enjoyed an incredible season for the Tigers, setting a Division I program record with 29 goals, while adding 13 assists for a team-best 42 points in 37 games. He finished tied for second nationally in goals and scored at least one goal in 21 games, which led the country. Brown is third all-time in RIT's Division I era with 52 career goals with 34 assists and 86 points in 111 career games. He also has 16 career power-play goals and eight game-winners.
 
The Dan and Laurie Barrows Hockey Fan's Choice Award was given to senior forward Myles Powell (Courtenay, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley Capitals). Powell enjoyed a tremendous season for the Tigers in 2017-18, finishing second on the team in scoring with 39 points on 13 goals and a team-high 26 assists in 37 games. A candidate for the 2018 Hobey Baker Award, Powell won 57 percent of his face-offs on the season and had nine multiple-point games. On Feb. 24, Powell became the 10th player in RIT's Division I history to reach 100 career points. The 2016 Atlantic Hockey Championship Most Valuable Player, Powell finished his RIT career with 45 goals and 60 assists for 105 points in 149 games.

Freshman forward Alden Dupuis (Edmonton, Alberta/Bonnyville Pontiacs ) was named the Craig Lauzon Award winner as RIT's Rookie of the Year. He was the lone RIT first-year player to appear in all 37 games and led all RIT rookies with seven goals and added three assists for 10 points. Overall, he led the team with a plus-10 rating  and was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Dec. 12. Dupuis had three multiple-point efforts and scored the overtime winner in a 6-5 victory at Mercyhurst on Feb. 12.

Sophomore defenseman Adam Brubacher (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings) won RIT's Green B. Williams Award for Academic Excellence. Brubacher, who was the 2017 Lauzon Award winner, enjoyed a strong season for the Tigers, tallying career-high totals of nine goals and 24 points in 37 games. He was second on the team with five power-play goals, tied for the team lead with 15 power-play points and led all Tigers by blocking 67 shots In two seasons, Brubacher has 15 goals and 32 assists for 47 points in 74 games.
 
The Dr. Albert J. Simone Distinguished Service Award is given annually to a member of the RIT hockey community who makes a positive impact on the program.  This year, the award went to student manager Ryan Stadtlander.  For the past four seasons, Stadtlander has served a valuable role in assisting with the day-to-day operations of the men's hockey program.
 
RIT, the 2010, 2015, and 2016 Atlantic Hockey Champions, finished the 2017-18 season with 15 wins and advanced to the First Round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament.
