ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-11, 7-6 Liberty League) men's basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak with an 82-74 win over St. Lawrence University (5-15, 3-10 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers honored local veterans and active military prior to the game.
With the win, RIT moved into a three-way tie for third place in the Liberty League standings with five games to play.
RIT shot 43.1 percent from the floor on 28-of-65 shooting. The Tigers went 14-of-30 from beyond the arc, and made 12-of-16 from the foul line.
Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) led RIT with a season-high tying 28 points and four assists. He was 8-of-14 from the floor, including seven three-point field goals.
Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while
Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) chipped in 16 points and five assists.
Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) grabbed 11 rebounds.
Chris Miner led St. Lawrence with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Crawford tallied 22 points, while Pierre Coffy chipped in 16 points for the Saints, who shot 45.5 percent from the floor.
RIT led by as many as eight points in the first half when Pierre-Louis drained a 3-pointer with 7:39 to play in the half. Miner converted a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to cut the RIT lead to 35-31 at the break. RIT shot 41.9 percent in the first half. Pierre-Louis led RIT with 15 points, while Miner tallied 14 points for the Saints.
Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) gave RIT its largest lead of the game with his 3-pointer with 5:27 to play in regulation extending RIT's lead to 69-56. The Saints went on 10-0 run, cutting the RIT lead to 69-66 with 2:42 to play in a 3-pointer from Dom DeRegis. RIT was able to make some big shots, including a long 3-pointer by Pierre-Louis on the next possession and made their free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 6 when the Tigers host Ithaca College at 8 p.m. in the floor of Clark Gymnasium.
