ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team returns to the ice this weekend with a pair of road games at College Hockey America rival Penn State University. Friday's game from Pegula Ice Arena begins at 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest starts at 3 p.m.
RIT has four regular season games remaining, all against College Hockey America foes, two on the road and two at the Gene Polisseni Center. Penn State is currently third in the CHA standings with 13 points, while RIT is sixth. The CHA Postseason Tournament will take place from March 1-3 at HARBORCENTER in downtown Buffalo.
RIT will wrap up the regular season next weekend, Feb. 23-24 from the Gene Polisseni Center against Mercyhurst. On Feb. 24, RIT will honor seniors
Lauren Carroll (Carlisle, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) and
Darcy Henderson (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas).
RIT dropped a pair of league games last weekend versus Syracuse.
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) leads RIT in scoring with 10 goals and 15 points.
Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) and
Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) are right behind with 12 points. Rushton has a team-best nine assists. In goal,
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) has a .912 save percentage, with 634 saves.
Penn State enters the weekend with a 6-13-11 mark, including an 3-6-7 record in CHA play. The Nittany Lions played to a pair of ties at league foe Mercyhurst last weekend, 1-1 on Friday and 3-3 Saturday. Penn State has played in 15 overtime games this season, going 1-3-11 in those contests. Natalie Heising leads the Nittany Lions in scoring with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists, while Brooke Madsen is right behind with a team-best 14 assists and 18 points. In net, Hannah Ehresmann is 5-8-9 with a 1.92 goals against average and a .927 save percentage in 22 games, while Daniela Paniccia has a 1.75 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.
The all-time series between the two schools is now even at 13-13-3. Penn State won their first two meetings of the season between the two schools at RIT on Dec. 1-2 by scores of 5-0 and 2-0. RIT defeated the Nittany Lions in the 2017 CHA First Round game.
