No. 13 women's basketball loses first game of season in overtime to St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, NY -- The No. 13 RIT (7-1) women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season, losing 68-61 in overtime to St. John Fisher College (6-3) Saturday evening at Nazareth College in the second game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. Fisher outscored RIT 45-32 in the second half and overtime, including 14-7 in the extra session.

RIT shot 38.7 percent from the floor on 24-of-62 shooting. The Tigers went 8-of-29 from beyond the arc, and made 5-of-6 from the foul line. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) led the Tigers with 22 points and eight assists. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) tallied 14 points, while Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Olivia Baumann led Fisher with 23 points and seven rebounds. Sydney Masna tallied 12 points, while Alex Reigle tallied 14 points off the bench for the Cardinals, who shot 42.3 percent from the floor.

RIT led 16-11 after the first quarter. Okada tallied six points, while Stanley tallied four points for the Tigers, who shot 41.2 percent from the floor.

Fisher got to within one point late in the first half, but the Tigers scored the last five points to lead 29-23 at the break. Wolfe hit a deep 3-pointer, and Lynch drained a jumper from the top of the key off and assist from Okada at the buzzer to give the Tigers a five-point edge.

The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 12-6 run, taking a 41-29 lead on a layup by Stanley with 5:50 remaining in the quarter. Fisher fought back to cut the lead to 44-37 heading into the fourth. Okada finished with five points in the quarter.

Baumann cut the RIT lead to 44-40 on her 3-ponter early in the fourth quarter. Hulbert cut the RIT lead to 44-42 on her layup with eight minutes to play. After Fisher cut the Tigers lead to one-point, Okada made two free throws to give RIT a 48-45 lead.

Okada gave the Tigers a 51-45 lead on her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 5:12 remaining in regulation. Baumann cut the Tigers lead to 51-49 on her layup, and Masna gave the Cardinals their first lead since early in the first quarter on her three-pointer with 2:28 remaining. Baumann made it 54-51 Fisher on her layup off an assist from Masna with a little over a minute to play.

Okada drained her fifth 3-pointer on RIT's next possession, tying the score at 54-54 with one minute remaining in regulation. Off a Fisher miss, the Tigers held for the final shot. Okada had her three-pointer blocked to send the game into overtime.

Trailing 61-58, Okada converted an old-fashioned 3-point play, tying the score at 61-61 with 1:55 to play in overtime. Reigle answered with a 3-pointer on the other end for Fisher, giving the Cardinals a 64-61 lead. Fisher would hit free throws in the final seconds to secure the win, denying RIT its second 8-0 start in three seasons.

RIT returns to action on January 4 at William Smith College.
