Box Score GENEVA, NY -- The No. 21 RIT (8-1, 3-0 Liberty League) women's basketball team began 2019 with a 72-68 win at William Smith College (4-5, 0-3 Liberty League) Friday evening from Bristol Gym. It is RIT's tenth straight win over the Herons.
RIT shot 47.3 percent from the floor on 26-of-55 shooting. The Tigers made 5-of-14 from beyond the arc, and went 15-of-20 from the foul line, including 11-of-14 in the fourth quarter. Senior
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) led the Tigers with 17 points, three assists and three steals.
Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) added 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) tallied 13 points.
Mia Morrison led William Smith with a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds. Olivia Hughes tallied 11 points off the Herons bench, while Amy Dooley and Juliana Ganboa each tallied nine points for William Smith who shot 36.1 percent from the floor.
The Tigers led 20-10 after the first quarter, and 41-26 at halftime. The Herons came back, outscoring the Tigers 22-14 in the third quarter to cut the Tigers lead to 55-48 heading into the fourth quarter. The Herons got to within two points in the fourth, but the Tigers held on with some key shots down the stretch, and buried clutch free throws to secure the win.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, January 5 when the Tigers face Rensselaer at 2 p.m. in Troy, N.Y.
