BROCKPORT, NY – The RIT men's track and field team opened the indoor season by competing at the Brockport Green vs. Gold Multi & Invitational from the Brockport Special Events & Recreation Center on Saturday.
The Tigers excelled in sprint events. RIT swept the two finishes in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The quartet of
Jeff Walter (/),
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School),
Christopher Callejo (West Babylon, NY/Patchouge-Medford) and
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) crossed the finish line first in a time of 3:27.03. The team of
Derek Swarthout (Macedon, NY/Penfield),
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott),
Matthew Woods (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and
Jon Ennin (Sunnyvale, TX/Sunnyvale) were second, finishing in 3:30.71.
RIT had five of the top six finishers in the 60-meter hurdles.
Max Gloskey (/) won the event with a time of 8.45 seconds, while
Dustin Van Kirk (Canton, CT/Canton) was third, crossing the finish line in 9.18 seconds.
Grant Croft (Newbury, NH/Kearsage),
Bryan Richiez () and Ricjard Yu also enjoyed strong finishes.
Ennin and Gloskey were fifth and sixth respectively, in the 60-meter dash. Ennin crossed the finish line in 7.17 seconds, two one-hundredths of a second ahead of Gloskey.
Callejo earned a third place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.12 seconds. Geiger was right behind in fourth with a time of 51.78 seconds. Woods and Thesier were eighth and ninth, respectively.
Bradley Morrissette picked up a third place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters.
Eric Hamm (Portchester, NY/Hendrick Hudson) cleared 1.78 meters to finish fifth.
Nick John (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) and
Thomas James (/) both cleared 4.25 meters in the pole vault. Walter,
Devante Marshall (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) and Morrissey earned top-seven finishes in the long jump. Walter was fourth with a leap of 6.75 meters, while Marshall jumped 6.64 meters and Morrissey, 6.52 meters.
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) was fifth in the weight throw at 14.75 meters, while Zachery Darling was right behind in eighth with a throw of 14.52 meters.
Mickey Evans (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) was RIT's top finisher in the shot put with a hurl of 12.88 meters.
The Tigers are right back in action on Thursday, Dec. 6, hosting the RIT Early Season Invitational from the Gordon Field House. The meet gets underway at 4 p.m.
