ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 15 RIT (5-0, 1-0 Liberty League) women's basketball team opened Liberty League play with a convincing 71-48 win over Bard College (3-2, 0-1 Liberty League) Friday evening from Clark Gym. RIT is off to a 5-0 start for the third consecutive season.
RIT shot 45.8 percent from the floor on 33-of-72 shooting. The Tigers made 3-of-14 from beyond the arc, and made 2-of-5 from the foul line. All 12 Tigers scored on the evening.
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied 10 points and six rebounds, while
Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) finished with seven points, seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman
Addy Flood (Webster, NY/Allendale Columbia School) tallied her first four collegiate points.
Bard's Jess Rylander led all scorers with 21 points, including 14 in the second half. Olivia Couture tallied 13 points for the Raptors, who shot 29.7 percent from the floor.
RIT trailed early, falling behind 8-6 early in the first quarter on a bucket from Caleigh DeCaprio with 7:25 remaining in the quarter. The Tigers outscored the Raptors 42-9 the remainder of the first half, leading 48-17 at the break. The Tigers shot 59.0 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Tigers held a 50-37 rebounding edge and scored 30 points in the paint.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when the Tigers host Union College at 2 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gym.
