Men's basketball suffers home loss to Alfred University

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-2) men's basketball team was defeated by Alfred University (4-0), 88-76 in non-conference action from Clark Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

RIT shot 43.3 percent from the floor on 26-of-60 shooting. The Tigers made 8-of-21 from beyond the arc, and converted on 16-of-20 from the foul line. Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) led RIT with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) tallied 14 points, while Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) tallied 10 points. Chuck Okehie (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh) and Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) each had 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who held a 39-30 rebounding edge.

Dom LeMorta led Alfred with a game-high 21 points, while Scotty Stopera finished with 14 points. Sam Dogan added 12 points for the Saxons, who shot 47.3 percent from the floor.

The Tigers took a 35-28 lead on a pair of free throws from Atkinson with 4:09 remaining in the first half. It was the largest lead the Tigers would enjoy throughout the game. Alfred went on a 16-3 run over the final four minutes of the half to lead 44-38 at the break.

RIT shot 46.7 percent in the first half on 14-of-30 shooting. Atkinson led the Tigers with 11 points, while LeMorta scored 15 points to lead Alfred, who shot 55.2 percent from the floor in the opening half.

Rosser buried a 3-pointer to open the second half, pulling RIT to within 44-41. The Saxons answered with an 11-2 run, taking a 54-43 lead on a pair of free throws from Elliot Bowen at the 17:10 mark.

Alfred maintained the lead until the 14:12 mark when Rosser drained another 3-pointer, cutting the Alfred lead to 60-54. A pair of Brewster Marshall free throws with 9:40 remaining extended the Saxons lead to 72-56. The Tigers would get within eight points down the stretch, but no closer, as Alfred stayed unbeaten.

RIT returns to action on Friday, Nov. 30 when the Tigers begin Liberty League play versus Bard College at 7 p.m. in the floor of Clark Gym.
