ROCHESTER, NY – Head coach
Jim Lodes earned his 350th career win at the university, as the RIT volleyball team (23-3, 6-1 Liberty League), rolled to a three-set win over Bard College (6-19, 0-7 Liberty League) from Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers, who held its annual "Dig Pink" game and celebrated Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend, rolled to set wins of 25-7, 25-11, 25-16. RIT has now won six straight matches and 21 of its last 22 overall.
RIT hit a season-high .407 for the match, out-scoring Bard, 55-14. The Tigers added 42 digs, 42 kills, eight service aces and five blocks.
The Tigers hit .542 in the opening set with 15 kills, rolling to a 25-7 win. In set two, the Tigers hit and .476 with 13 kills in a 25-11 victory. Bard cut the RIT lead to 17-16 in the third set, before RIT rattled off eight straight points to seal the win.
Katie Hobler (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) hit .625 with 17 kills in the three-set victory, while
Kelly Waters (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) chipped in with eight kills, while hitting .412.
Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) added seven kills, while
Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) had nine digs, six kills and three service aces.
Brianna Ellis (Wayne, PA/Radnor) had 21 assists and a block in two sets, while
Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 11 kills in the opening set.
Storm Bookhard led the Raptors with seven kills, while Emily Anastasi had a match-high 12 digs.
"I was happy we received contributions from a lot of different players today," said Lodes, who is now 350-212 in 14 seasons at RIT. "It was a great weekend for us playing in front of two big crowds. We are excited to be home for our final four matches of the regular season."
Last night, RIT rallied to earn a dramatic five-set win over Liberty League rival Vassar College. Hobler had 26 kills for the Tigers, while Higgins added 21 digs and 15 kills.
The Tigers are right back in action with four home matches next week to wrap up the regular season. Next up for RIT is The College at Brockport, Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
