ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-1) men's swimming and diving team defeated Alfred University (0-1) by a score of 182.5-112.5 Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool as part of RIT Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
RIT began the meet with a first and second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, taking 13 points. The team of
Andres Orbe (North Bergen, NJ/Saint Peter's),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Ben Metzger (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and
Will Brown (Boulder, CO/Fairview) won the event in a time of 1:39.22.
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Matt Ciminelli (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home),
Ethan Davis (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) and
Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) came home second in a time of 1:42.00.
Brown won multiple events, taking home first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.58, while winning the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.30. Other winners included Truskinovsky in the 200-freestyle (1:50.80) and Rothrock in the 100-yard backstroke (57.13). Nevers took home first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1:02.53.
Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington) was a winner in the 200-butterfly (1:59.70) and Orbe was a winner in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.57).
In diving,
Jon Bauer (Fairview, PA/McDowell) placed second in the 3-meter competition with a score of 214.80.
Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was third with a score of 191.40.
Abraham Dulaney (Kirkland, WA/Juanita) placed fifth, earning the Tigers a valuable point. Bauer placed second in the 1-meter competition (203.45), and Van Duyne was third (178.40).
RIT returns to action on Saturday, October 27 when the Tigers swim at SUNY Fredonia beginning at 1 p.m.
