ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (8-1) women's swimming and diving team defeated Nazareth College (5-3) by a score of 174-124 on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool to extend its winning streak to eight dual meets . Prior to the meet, RIT honored the class of 2018.
The Tigers began the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis),
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy),
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview) and
Katie Mayer (Bristol, VT/Vergennes Union) came home first in a time of 1:51.07.
Zbranak, Adams, Phillips and
Eleanor O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) each won a pair of individual events. Zbranak won the 100-yard backstroke (59.76), and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.22). Adams took home first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.76) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.34). Phillips annexed the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.53) and the 500-yard freestyle, while O'Gorman won the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.89) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.30).
Other winners included
Addy Maykish (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.28), and
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.37).
On the diving board, senior
Alaiya Tuntemeke (Livonia, NY/Livonia) swept both events. She took the 1-meter (228.50) and the 3-meter (242.90) contests. Classmate
Patsy Hayes (San Jose, CA/Abraham Lincoln) was second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter events.
Before the meet, RIT honored seniors
Carol Anderson (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein),
Maria Echavarria (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Neuva Granda), Hayes,
Grace Morales (South Riding, VA/Freedom), Tuntemeke,
Katherine Ward (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Woodling.
RIT's 8-1 regular season record is among the best in program history. The Tigers are 16-3 in dual meets over the last two years.
RIT returns to action on Sunday when the Tigers compete at Hamilton College in a make-up from Jan. 13.
