TROY, NY — The RIT (8-9, 6-4 Liberty League) men's basketball team lost 67-49 in Liberty League action at Rensselaer (9-8, 4-6 Liberty League) Friday evening. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Tigers.

RIT shot 44.4 percent from the floor on 20-of-45 shooting. The Tigers made just 3-of-13 from beyond the arc, and went 6-of-9 from the foul line. Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) led RIT with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Wyatt Smith (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) chipped in with eight points off the bench.

Tom Horvat led a trio of Engineers in double figures with 17 points. Andrea Kontopidis and Marcus Giese each scored 12 points for Rensselaer, who shot 47.4 percent from the floor.

RIT trailed 33-25 at halftime, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. RIT took a 21-19 late in the first half on a layup by Pierre-Louis. The Engineers outscored the Tigers 14-4 over the final 5:50 to lead by eight at the break. Aguilera led RIT with eight points and four rebounds. Smith tallied seven points off the bench, while Pierre-Louis chipped in six points. Horvat led RPI with 13 points.

Pierre-Louis cut the Engineers lead to 33-28 with his bucket on RIT's first possession of the second half. Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) cut the RPI lead to 36-31 on his 3-pointer moments later.

Rensselaer answered with a 13-5 run, taking a 49-36 lead on a 3-pointer from Patrick Mahoney with 10:39 to play. Mahoney extended the RPI lead to 52-37 with another 3-pointer just past the halfway point of the second half. Justin Schneider (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga) cut the lead to 54-43 on a pair of free throws late, but that would be as close as the Tigers would get to RPI down the stretch.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 when the Tigers face Hobart College at 4 p.m. in Geneva, N.Y.
