ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT volleyball team (6-4) rolled to three-set wins over D'Youville College (6-5) and Medaille College (0-13) at the Tiger Tri-Match held in Clark Gym on Saturday.
In the first match of the day against D'Youville, RIT rallied to win the opening set, 25-21, before pulling away to win set two, 25-17 and set three, 25-15.
The Tigers hit .247 overall and had 39 kills in the three sets, 38 with assists.
Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) and
Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) slammed 11 kills apiece. Higgins hit .389 while adding four digs. Sophomore
Joelle Marston (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) made her 2017 debut in the second set and flourished, hitting .389 with nine kills. Freshman
Kelly Fellner (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added four kills and a pair of blocks.
Junior setter
Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) dished out 33 assists and tied for the team lead with three service aces. Freshman
Kathryn Vogl (West Seneca, NY/St. Mary's) also added three aces, while senior
Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) led the way defensively with seven digs.
Kendyll Smith and Megan Schneider led the Spartans with five kills apiece, while McKenna Cartonia had a team-best 10 assists.
RIT rolled to a 25-18, 25-11, 25-17 win over Medaille to close out the day. Higgins slammed 10 kills to go along with seven digs, while Taylor added eight kills. Marston had seven kills, while
Shelby Doheny (Moreau, NY/South Glens Falls) hit .500 with four kills. Parkinson dished out 16 assists in two sets, while
Brianna Ellis (Wayne, PA/Radnor) added 12 in one set. Bennett added a team-high 14 digs .
Melissa Postek led Medaille with three kills, while Savannah Berry added eight assists and Gina Appenheimer recorded 13 digs.
"We are really pleased with the way the team played today," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "Many people contributed and provided energy and we continue to grow as a team."
D'Youville defeated Medaille in three sets in the second match of the day.
RIT is right back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 with a road contest at St. John Fisher that begins at 6 p.m.
