PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT volleyball team (7-4) won the final three sets to claim its third straight victory, three sets to one over host St. John Fisher College (10-4) from Manning-Napier Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals raced out to a big early lead and dominated the opening set, 25-13, while hitting .417. From there, RIT took control of the match on both sides of the ball, winning the final three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-21.
Sophomore
Joelle Marston (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) was tremendous in the win for RIT, slamming a career-high 18 kills to go along with three blocks. Freshman
Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) enjoyed a double-double, recording 15 digs and 10 kills in addition to a team-high three service aces. Junior setter
Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) dished out 28 assists and added nine digs. Freshman
Paige Daly (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) chipped in with eight digs, while sophomore middle blocker
Sarah DelVecchio (Galway, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) had four kills and four blocks.
Anna Marcy led the Cardinals with 12 kills, while Katie Mazierski had 16 digs and 10 kills. Rebecca Hay had 29 assists.
"I was really impressed with our resiliency tonight," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "We fought hard against a good team. I really think this mentality will benefit us in Liberty League play."
The Tigers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 60-30. RIT has now won five straight matches over the Cardinals.
RIT is right back in action on Friday, opening up Liberty League play with a match at Vassar College that gets underway at 7 p.m.
