ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore long distance standout
Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Cybergymnasiet) of the RIT men's track and field team, will represent the university in the 10,000-meter run at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will take place from May 25-27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Kingstedt will compete in the 10,000-meters at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 25. A member of RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), Kingstedt has the fourth fastest time in the 10,000-meters nationally in 2017. On April 14, Kingstedt broke a 21-year old school record, at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, crossing the finish line in a time of 29:38.43. That time broke the school mark by 14 seconds of 29:52.42, previously held by RIT Athletics Hall of Famer Tony Fraij, set in 1996. It is one of the 25 fastest all-time in Division III history.
In that race, Kingstedt ran his first 5,000-meters in 14:57 and his last 5,000 in 14:41.4. He saved his best 1,000-meter split for last, running it in 2:48.4.
Kingstedt also won the 5,000-meter run at the Liberty League Outdoor Championship on April 22 in a time of 15:02.67. In that race, Kingstedt fell, before being helped up by runner-up Thomas Caufield of St. Lawrence. Both men were lauded for their
sportsmanship. During the indoor season, Kingstedt earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors after recording a speedy time of 14:45.78 in the 5,000-meters, earning runner-up honors at the NYSCTC Championships.
