Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL — The RIT baseball team (1-2) was shut out in its first action in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Sunday morning. Salve Regina (2-1) defeated the Tigers 3-0 at Lake Myrtle Field.
"I thought we played a very strong game against a great team," said RIT head coach
Rob Grow. "Both pitchers were very good and with a couple different breaks in that game, it could have gone either way."
Brian Reed (Rochester, NY/Penfield) pitched 7 1/3 innings for RIT, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched the final 2/3 of an inning in relief, allowing one hit.
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) and
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) registered ninth-inning hits for the Tigers.
For Salve Regina, Patrick Maybach pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits for the shutout. He had a no-hitter through 8 2/3 innings before RIT's two singles in the ninth. RIT would have runners on first and third, but Maybach.coerced a fly out to end the game, giving Salve Regina a 3-0 victory.Colton Eremian, Alex Perry, and Brody Santill scored runs for the Seahawks, while seven different batters registered hits.
After 3 1/2 innings of scoreless baseball, the Seahawks got on the board in the fourth, as Santilli scored on an RBI single to right field by Hunter Sleeper. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, when Salve scored twice on RBI singles from Perry and Zack Smith.
RIT is back in action on Monday, as the Tigers face Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at 9:45 a.m. back at Myrtle Field.
